More about

A stunning Pinot Noir from one of Austria's best red wine makers. The climate and soil types in Thermenregion, often compared to Burgundy, are ideally suited to Pinot Noir and this example from Christian Fischer does not disappoint.

2005: A deep ruby red, with a fine deep bouquet is pure Pinot on the palate, with cinnamon, spice and kirsch, the finish is long and flavoursome. A good match for dark meats, game, mushrooms, soft red cheese and blue cheese. Falstaff Wineguide - 89 Points.

Ben on the 2009.

A beautiful ruby red Pinot Noir. Everything you would expect to see when poured into the glass. It is a treat to the eyes.

As well as the wild berry aromas, there is a scent of cathedral incense which triggers an almost reverential approach to this wine. A feeling that maybe you oughtn't to be drinking it. Don't worry. There is no need to look over your shoulder. Plunge in with fervour.

Full bodied and silky, the balance keeping the acidity until the last moment, the dense forest fruits combine on the palate and join with a hint of meatiness. Hints of bitter almonds and soft pepper lurk beneath.

I would drink this with anything. Christian Fischer recommends it with roast pork or lasagne.

Drink now, but try to keep some for the next 2 to 3 years.
