We often find new excellent winemakers by asking our other winemakers. Philippe Deschamps came highly recommended by Vincent Lacondemine. Philippe Deschamps owns 6 hectares of vines in the central part of Beaujolais on various sites around Beaujeu, Lantignié, Les Ardillats and Quincié. Of these, one hectare is in the Beaujolais appellation the rest being Beaujolais Villages and Brouilly.
In 2019, Philippe had the privilege of being nominated as the joint best Beaujolais Nouveau winemaker nominated by the winegrowers of Beaujolais Nouveau. It was also a coup for us to have a winemaker winning an accolade such as this in our portfolio!
The Beaujolais Nouveau is an excellent value easy drinking red that is our entry level but there’s nothing entry level about the quality of Philippe’s winemaking!
For a slightly more sophisticated Beaujolais Cru look no further than his Brouilly Cuvée Prestige; we have a fantastic range of vintages from the stellar 2018 and 2015 which are fresh and youthful while brimming with strawberry red fruits to more mature vintages from the iconic 2009 and excellent 2011 and 2010 vintages showing more developed character.
They provide a great opportunity for you to really see the ageing potential of Gamay when in the hands of a top winemaker using fruit from one of the Beaujolais Cru, without having to wait 10 years or more to see the results!
