Domaine de Montmollin

The Montmollin family have been working the terroir in Auvernier since the 17th century. Being large historic landowners (they are a branch of the family that used to be lords of the castle), they work 50 hectares, which makes them one of the largest winemakers in Neuchâtel. Today Benoit and his sister, Rachel Billeter-de Montmollin are the 4th generation, supported in the cellar by a fantastic french oenologist Christelle Delamalmaison

The estate tried biodyamic cultivation, first about half the vineyards, by 2016, and then, convinced by the results, the whole 50 ha. From the 2019 vintage, all of the wines are certified organic by Bio-Switzerland.

Grapes come from 8 villages on the northern shores of Lake Neuchâtel. The vines enjoy the reflected sun light from the lake of Neuchâtel all the year round are planted on clay and limestone soil deep enough to allow the development of rich wines, fruity with a long finish. The vines are pruned using the Guyot method, with cultivation at mid-hight. Most of the wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks with ageing in steel for months.
