There is a powerfully mineral side to these wines, a smokiness and an almost meaty texture.A very dark ruby red, this wine has a dusty earthy nose, gamey with hints of lavender and crushed white pepper. On the palate, it is rich and powerful, with a gamey earthiness and plenty of intense black and red fruits, raspberry and cassis and a peppery undertone. All that and yet remarkably smooth. Definitely one for food and built for the long haul.
Ben says (November 2017): Give this wine some air and at least half an hour and you will be rewarded with a silky smooth, fruity wine. It is a real masterpiece. It has transcended the Gamay grape and become a great wine. The maturity has, at last, become a fantastic feature and the wine is incredibly deep, rich and glorious. Get some and experience true greatness at a very good price. You will not be disappointed.
Ben says of the 2006 (September 2018): The notes above stand firm. This is amazing!
Flo says of the 2006 (September 2018): Just a delightful example of the joy that is a brilliant Beaujolais!
