Why We Have It

It's one of the best oaked examples of this lesser known style of Chardonnay

Why Choose This?

Choose it young if you like primary aromas or with some maturity if you like the tertiary notes

What to expect

Maconnais style with complexity and freshness

More about

I know Chardonnay is hard to sell on a niche site like ours, so when I take some there's a reason! This one is just fabulous - I love this wine.

Only 2% of Beaujolais Production is white and a large percentage of this is blended with Chardonnay from Burgundy and labelled Bourgogne Blanc.

This is 100% fruit from Beaujolais which is elegantly oaked in 2nd/3rd and 4th fill barrels. It's rich, warm, fruity, and tongue tingling.

Similar in style to wines of the Maconnais which it's in close proximity to.

Serving Suggestions

Serve not too cold, take out of the fridge, open and give time to breathe.
Oysters and seafood in youth or more complex flavours with age like mushroom risotto or creamy pasta dishes. Pan roasted salmon with beurre blanc - well, anything with beurre blanc and it's worth sacrificing a little of the wine to the beurre blanc.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

This wine has a lovely deep lemon/straw colour and is clear as crystal.

On the nose there is plenty of citrus with a hint of sweetness in the background.

In the mouth this wine comes alive. It is deep and rich with a delightful creaminess.

Flavours of apricot, apple, lemon and lime. The light oaking gives a hint of vanilla but no more.

In youth its led by fresh fruit aromas of pear, citrus and pineapple. With maturity it's honeyed, nutty and complex yet still retains its acidity.

This is an elegant and delicious wine.

Vintage 2018

So different from the 2013. The nose is far lighter and, in the mouth, it seems almost crystalline.

The oak seems to have disappeared until the vanilla comes through in the long finish.

Vintage 2017

I love the mature Chantemerles and 2017 is still young but I also love this younger, fresher, version.

It has yet to develop the creamy lusciousness that years will bestow upon it but it it lovely already.

Plenty of pear and citrus on the nose which transfer to the mouth along with pineapple and vanilla. Well balanced and delicious!

Vintage 2013

2013 Chantmerle tatsed by Anne McHale MW in 2020 "Nutty, honeyed, with the new oak working in its flavours. 2013 was a vintage that was marked by freshness and this still has it in volumes. Really beautiful"

Vintage 2011

So different from the 2013. The nose is far lighter and, in the mouth, it seems almost crystalline. The oak seems to have disappeared until the vanilla comes through in the long finish.

Vintage 2010

Another utterly beautiful wine. Closer in style to the 2013 than the 2011 or 2009 but the rich creaminess comes as a delayed effect rather than being present from the off.
