France  Beaujolais

Fantastic Beaujolais Blanc which reminds you that Beaujolais is firmly in Burgundy. This is delicious and develops a complex "patina" as it ages. The 13 is at a sweet spot where complexity has appeared, but tertiary notes have not appeared yet.

Features Unoaked, Vegetarian and Vegan
Style White, Still, Dry, Single Variety
Last Tasted 23 Aug 2018
  • Alpine Wines Grape Varieties: Chardonnay
It's one of the best oaked examples of this lesser known style of Chardonnay
Choose it young if you like primary aromas with your Chardonnay or with some maturity if you like the tertiary notes
Maconnais style but with complexity and freshness

I know Chardonnay is hard to sell on a niche site like ours, so when I take some there's a reason! This one is just fabulous - I love this wine.

Only 2% of Beaujolais Production is white and a large percentage of this is blended with Chardonnay from Burgundy and labelled Bourgogne Blanc.

This is 100% fruit from Beaujolais which is elegantly oaked in 2nd/3rd and 4th fill barrels. It's rich, warm, fruity, and tongue tingling.

In youth its led by fresh fruit aromas of pear, citrus and pineapple. With maturity it's honeyed, nutty and complex yet still retains its acidity.

Similar in style to wines of the Maconnais which it's in close proximity to.

This wine is fermented at low temperature to keep the varietal aromas of Chardonnay. MLF is blocked and the wine is aged on its lees with weekly batonnage to add some texture in 2nd/3rd/4th fill barrels. Bottling is after a minimum of 9 months of ageing.
