Gwäss is indeed a rare grape. In 1994 a mere 1.35 hectares were cultivated commercially in the Valais and yet Gwäss was once all over Europe. Now known as "the Casanova grape", Gwass seems to have spread across Europe and crossed, probably mostly spontaneously, with just about everything. Its crossings with Pinot alone seem like they are half the family tree of great wines.

Like many of the ancient varieties Gwäss has a lot of acidity. Chanton's clean winemaking has tamed the acidity producing a very refreshing wine.

Chanton's Gwäss is highly aromatic with green forest-like aromas. Dry and well structured with good concentration of grapey fruit and some green apple flavours.
