Absolutely classic Weinviertel style Grüner Veltliner - crisp and peppery when young. It also ages magnificently.
The area of Weinvietal produces some of the best Grüner Veltliner in the world. I love this one, it is such a delightful wine. It comes from the town of Schrattenthal which is a small rural community, north of Vienna just next to the Czech border and is made from grapes grown on 3 seperate sites around Schrattenthal, mainly on sandy clay soils.
This wine is pale, but bright and the nose is wonderfully typical of good Grüner Veltliner. Delicate peppery herbal spices mingled with a fragrantly fresh fruit basket. On the palate the elegant presence of pears, smooth fruity fusion, juicy and underscored by robust acidity. A classic Weinviertler with spices and pepperiness. It is a full-bodied white that I enjoy hugely on its own.
Excellent with asparagus or typical dishes of the Viennese cuisine such as offal, roast chicken or Wiener Schnitzel.
4 Star Highly Recommended in Decanter Magazine's June 2009 review of 2007 Grüner Veltliner's from all over Austria.
