Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2022, by Alpine Wines' star producer Jerome Lacondemine.

This is a more structured nouveau, dark fruit and some tannins. A rare few find it too serious but most love it and find it a fin contrast to the fruitier Philippe Deschamps.

Since 2018, the wine is produced with no added sulfites and minimal intervention, allowing for more complexity in the finished wine. BUT once opened it will evolve, over about 5 hours. Keep it chilled if you're going to drink it slower.

If you have been our customer a while, you know the Lacondémine family of Beaujeu. 

Vincent Lacondémine was a firm favourite until his retirement in 2017. His nephew Jérôme took over - bringing the family vineyards back together. Philippe Lacondémine was Jérome's father, and Vincent's brother, and he tended to vineyards all his life. He died abruptly in spring 2019.

This wine was launched in 2019 in memory of Jérôme's father Philippe - in 2019 vinified only from the vineyards Philippe had tended in Fleurie, but in more recent years just a no-added-sulphites version of the Villages.

Jérome works all his Nouveau without added sulphites but this one is also bottled under vacuum - no sulphites added even at bottling.

As a result it can oxidise faster than "normal" wines after opening so you should drink it in one sitting or chill it... I don't think this will be a problem ;)

Jérome makes his wines with no added sulphur in the vineyard or cellar, but they are bottled traditionally. This wine is bottled under vaccuum so that it can be bottled with no added sulphur at all.

This means

  • there's a bit of pressure on opening that can cause a tiny amount of splatter and
  • it will oxidise in 4 or 5 hours at room temperature once air gets in.
