Why We Have It

It would be criminal not to! It's that good! Approachable with great balance, length and intensity at a good price!

Why Choose This?

For when you don't want to discuss the wine too much - it's not complicated, doesn't make demands, just pure deliciousness.

What to expect

A lively fun wine, that will wake you up. Fresh and clean. Focused fruit. Crowd Pleaser.

More about

One of our greatest hits. A very pretty, direct, confident wine.

First, it is fresh. High acidity, an acidity that is bright and pleasant, nothing harsh about it, just a clean brisk breeze. A bright trumpet solo.

The young vintages will wake you up, the older vintages mellow and widen a little.

The fruit follows, mellow and pleasant, as if the breeze was going through a warm orchard at the end of summer.

Finish is way longer that it has any right to be on an "entry level" wine.

Serving Suggestions

Because it is so focused it is also very flexible - you can drink it as an aperitif well chilled, but it goes with a lot of food. Just make sure you pick dishes that aren't ruined by acidity (not sushi or sashimi, for example)
This is an easy flexible wine that could go with almost everything. An obvious match is with classic austrian fare like Schnitzel, loaded canapes or knoedel. Recently had it with Grilled Gloucester Old Spot Pork Chop and Sauerkraut. For Tafelspitz filet, I'd recommend going one up to the Anzenthal Reserve. Thai flavours, especially the thai salads and coconut-lemongrass based curries, are also a lovely match. It cuts through fried food fantastically, we love it with savoury fried dishes like scotch eggs or whitebait, though is perhaps too fresh for tempura (unless you pick an older vintage)

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

From Kamptal you expect citrus, peaches and white flowers, with a lot of dry "licking rocks" minerality feel. And that is exactly what you get.

The fruit is round and clean, and the minerality makes it feel cleaner yet. The finish is very long especially considering it is a "classic" entry level wine.

Vintage 2021

2021 had the most beautiful acidity, every type of citrus depending on your day and mood.

Vintage 2019

The 2019 vintage was not as warm as the 2018 so we have more balanced complexity (for a "classic style" Riesling)

Vintage 2018

2018 was warmer so this always had more fruit and was a bit mellower than other vintages.

It is still true to its youth, stone fruit and citrus. Hasn't really started to develop petrol (as of April 2021) notes, they tend to come late to this wine, if at all.

More

The key to this wine is the terroir! Vines exclusively on primary rock, soil long washed away by the Danube digging its valley.

This soil structure offers great minerality. In search of nutrients the vines grow down to 10m below the soil surface.

Combined with the ideal ripening conditions that give wonderful ripe apple and stone fruit flavours this wine is perfectly balanced
