Ben says:
This beautiful example of a young Zweigelt is a suavely confident wine crafted by Franz and Christine Netzl.
It is a lovely deep ruby colour and the nose is almost physically chewable with lingering black fruits, combining was sweet tones of treacle and caramel and a hint of stewed prunes in the background. Absolutely gorgeous. On tasting it is a surprise to find that it is much lighter in the body than the nose suggests, but this is far from a problem as flavours of black fruits, especially cherry, come through with hints of plum in the background. The only question is what to eat with this wine. We found the answer far simpler than we expected. Drink this with roast lamb and you will have an astonishing experience. With the sweetness of the roast lamb the tannins softened dramatically, not that they were at all harsh to start with, and the fruit exploded in the mouth. The length of this wine is astonishing. It keeps on and on giving more and more pleasure.
This is still a young wine, but a delightful drink that is ready now. However, it would be worth filling your cellar as it will develop further in the next few years. If anyone tells you that they don't like red wine, give them a glass of this. They will love it.
