Gregor Kuonen et Fils

Salquenen, Valais

"In vite vita" - in the vineyard there is life. This philosophy has defined the family winery for three generations. The experience gained is passed from father to son (or daughter). Gregor Kuonen wine comes from typical vineyards in the heart of Valais.

In Caveau Salquenen the grapes are subjected to a strict selection before being pressed. The Kuonen cellar produces more than 50 different wines. Wine lovers will also find a variety of traditional and unique specialties such as Lafnetscha, Ermitage, Heida, Petite Arvine, Humagne Rouge, Cornalin, Diolinoir and more.

The "Grandmaître" and "Vieux Salquenen" ranges bring together the best wines of the house. The love of wine and the consciousness of absolute quality are two features that distinguish the Kuonen family. More than 200 awards obtained in renowned national and international competitions adorn the roll of honor of the family business.

Salquenen never really played an important role in the history of Valais but interestingly, during the 13th century the Knights of St. John of Malta settled in Salquenen and true to the principles of their order built an inn offering food and shelter to pilgrims and travellers.

Had they chosen this village for the virtues of wine? Unfortunately no records survive to back up the assumption that the legendary hospitality of Salquenen could be a legacy of its chivalrous past.

In any case, Salquenen has always taken its task as a linguistic border town between the Upper and Lower Valais Valais seriously, taking care that the Romande language does not extend to the detriment of "l’alémanique".
