Alex Schreiner typifies the young generation of Austrian producers - creative, keen to experiment but firmly grounded in tradition. For generations the Schreiner family have run their winery successfully and Alex entered the business in 2004. The family have 15 hectares of vines scattered around Gols of which 70% are red and 30% white.
The wines are popular internationally but divide opinion in Austria. Alex makes fairly untypical wines, often with mediterranean strength oaking and longer ageing than is common.
This is not a bad idea in Gols where 300 winemakers vie for attention. Alex stands out and goes sometimes against the grain. I certainly can relate to that!
