This wine is a blend of three varieties. 60% Viognier (a relatively new variety for Israel), 30% French Colombard and 10% Gewürztraminer. The Viognier contributes a rich, ripe yellow fruit structure, the Colombard gives the citrus freshness and the Gewürztraminer adds an exotic floral touch.

The vineyards are located in the Jerusalem Hills region and the Ellah Valley. Each variety was separately fermented in stainless steel tanks. Part of the Viognier was fermented in new French oak barrels with a Burgundy type toasting and aged for about 3 months on its lees in order to enhance its aromatic complexity and structure.

The resulting wine is an aromatic, fresh and complex dry white wine. When young, it has a citrussy-grassy freshness and floral aromas. As it ages, yellow-white fruit (peach-nectarine, apricot), tangerine and melon, flowers and honey aromas are to be expected.

White Israeli Journey is a good match for cold salads, pasta dishes, fish and poultry. Rogov 88 points. Recommended serving temperature, 8-10°C. Alcohol: 13%.

Ben says (December 2017): This wine impressed all who tried it at the Manchester Three Wine Men event. It is still lovely and will be so for a few years to come. As indicated above, the early aromas and flavours have transformed into a more mature style but the blend still offers a unique and delicious taste that I have yet to find elsewhere. With less than 10 cases remaining, this is one to add to your order, for the delight and the interest of an Israeli wine.
