Syrah de Chamoson
Crunchy Swiss Syrah
Quite a crunchy mineral Syrah. A good introduction to the Valais style.

More about this wine
Ben says (September 2016): This is the wine that does for Syrah what Usain Bolt does for Athletics - makes it way cool! Do not expect creamy, in your face fruits and strong tannins. This is not a blackcurrant syrup by any means.
Give the wine a few minutes after pouring to let it settle and breathe before getting your nose deep into the glass and inhaling. The aroma is subtle but deep and lovely with a maturity beyond its years. It reminds me of the smell in my kitchen the day after jam-making when the aromas linger on and set the juices flowing with a whimsical reminder of what was and what is to come.
In the mouth you are initially surprised by the lightness of the tannins and the delicacy of the texture but then the smooth liquid shifts into delightful fruit and spice flavours which linger through a long finish in a very satisfying manner.
As a fan of big, bold Syrah this came as a bit of a shock but it is so sophisticated and perfectly balanced that I love it! I would advise chilling it slightly as it will not be happy in modern room temperatures. This also helps to enhance the spiciness of the wine.
