More about this wine

Die Leidenshaft means passion - Martin's passion for wine, and especially for wine aged in barrels as he has seen in Italy. Here he again does something quite unique for Austria, a Riesling aged in barrels, well half of it, to keep a perfect balance with the expression of the variety. It's different and fascinating, but it is also extremely enjoyable and will convince even Riesling fanatics. A wine to savour as well as a wine to cellar.

Ben says (February 2017): Oaked Riesling is quite a rarity, especially in Austria but, after tasting this wine, I wonder why it is not made this way more often. The colour is deep and intense. The nose has all the Riesling qualities you might expect but, with the maturity this wine has gained, less fresh and sharp than when first tasted. It is in the mouth that the oak really makes itself present. Not in a heavy-handed way but a delightful creaminess that you would rarely associate with Riesling. Do not expect familiarity but do expect enjoyment.
