More about this wine
Forget Sideways - this is Merlot to make the most hardened opponent change their mind.
Ben says (July 2016): This is a blockbuster of a wine but not of the in-yer-face type. Alex Shreiner is a bit of a genius with his ability to bring flavours out of his grapes that you rarely find elsewhere. The wine is dark and brooding in the glass. If Mary Shelley had been a winemaker, this is what she would have created. Not a monster but a work of almost Gothic beauty. On the nose the black fruits are matched with the green bramble aromas, creating memories of blackberry picking in years past. On the palate, the darkness continues as the black fruits fill the mouth. The tannins attack at first but then show themselves to be far less bold than they first appear.
This is a great wine from an exceptionally gifted winemaker. One to drink now and also store for future years.
Deep garnet, dark core. On the nose, subtle aromas of toast, cassis and dark berry jam. On the palate, powerful and complex, very present tannins including good plum cherry fruit on the finish with a hint of bitter chocolate. Has very good ageing potential.
