It's a light but flavoursome style of wine ideally suited to seafood, fish of all types and white meats. It makes a great summer wine - great for the barbecue or drinking with salads.

This wine is made by Erich Altenriederer at his Traismauer estate which is about 5 miles east of Krems, south of the Danube.

Traismaur stands on the Traisen, a tributary of the Danube. If you are lucky enough to be cruising on that glorious river then be sure to have some of this glorious wine to help you on your way.

Ben says (August 2016): The 2008 has a lovely nose of melon, apricot, banana and lemon with herbs and spices dancing in the vanguard. These flavours continue into the mouth with panache and plenty of zing. Despite its age, this wine seems as fresh as if it were bottled last month. There is a little creaminess, which may be because of the age, but that just enhances the pleasure.

This is a lovely wine and well worth getting while it lasts.

Tasting Notes

2011: .

2008: Refined and subtle pear, honey and pepper on the nose give way to a more subdued taste on the palate. The same flavours are there and with a good long finish. This is a wine to drink with food – freshwater fish or venison dishes.

2011: A light golden yellow with a light nose of minerals and spice. On the palate there are sharp green flavours, minerals again, spice and cracked white pepper with surprisingly good length for a wine at this price.

2014: Altenriederer has a perfect vintage in 2014. A classic example which is our reference for 2014.
