More about this wine

Why we have it
Robb wanted it again.
Why choose this
You like a bold wine, but want something easy to drink and share.
How to serve it
Drink with full flavoured meals or just on its own - it's smooth enough to be fine solo.
Food matches
Full flavoured meals such as spicy beef. We like it with chinese sticky beef or diced beef with smoked paprika chilli. Great with the sweet-spicy flavours of a classic Tagine (I love lamb with prunes). Other classic matches would be venison, well hung

Edles Tal is a blend of 60% Zweigelt and 40% Merlot - sometimes with a touch of Cabernet (as in the 2012). Matured in oak.

This is a truly fantastic wine and still quite young. Drink now or lay down for 10 years.

A big wine, but perhaps more approachable and a touch fresher than the Anna Christina.

In Depth

The grapes are grown in Netzl's vineyards in Göttlesbrunn in the Edles Tal and Holzweg vineyards, where rich loam and loess soils are ideal for these varieties.

Recommended serving temperature 18°C.

Netzl recommends allowing this to breathe for 6 hours prior to drinking. I think it is ready to enjoy sooner, but if you like to sip a big complex red wine on its own give it time to emerge.

Tasting Notes

Very dark garnet, almost opaque, with powerful aromas of ripe red and black berry fruit, hints of chocolate, orange and some vanilla.

On the palate the Merlot brings softness, yet there is huge concentration of fruit flavours supported by well integrated tannins.

Distinct Gamey edge. Huge length.
