Seven grape varieties were used for this complex wine made from superbly matured grapes that developed during a very hot summer. It is a wine with great potential, lusciously long in the mouth and with beautiful depth. The aromas are a mix of liquorice, black fruit and dates, woven through refined tannins. It is very persistent with a distinguished appeal, very seductive, but it has only just begun to show all its virtues.

Exceptional wine from Valais.

More about this wine

Electus 2010 is a cuvée made from Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Diolinoir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. This wine is enigmatic and irresistibly harmonious.

Once upon a time there was... Electus.

Four friends who were passionate about wine, oenologists and growers, were haunted for years by a question - why were the wonderful and diverse terroirs of Valais, blessed with good altitude and sunshine, not capable of giving a very great fine wine? A truly great wine?

The friends combed through vines and traditions, searched painstakingly among memories, selected this vine and that vine parcel, analysed harvests, scrutinized the weather and dissected the soil. Then one day, in a glass, led first by their noses, then by their mouths, the answer appeared. Electus was born.

The 2010 vintage had great depth and brilliance, with power that was tempered by softness, a dash of elegance, spicy aromas and a very Valais touch, for this was a wine that was solid and round at the same time.

The exceptional exposure to sunlight enjoyed by the vines in Valais, up to 800 metres, and spread across the flanks of the mountains, allows some 50 grape varieties to ripen here. A veritable ampelographic conservatory which only a handful of regions in the world are permitted to enjoy. Cornalin, Humagne, Diolinoir – grapes that are so little known elsewhere! Electus brings together up to seven of these. The number varies from one vintage to another with nature alone in charge of this decision.

Electus offers a blend found nowhere else in the world by joining these beautiful Swiss grape varieties to their better known cousins the Cabernets, Merlot and Syrah. Just as in an orchestra where each instrument plays its part in perfect harmony with its neighbour, a symphony is born of this blend. A true and honest harmony.

Tasting Notes

Notes of clove, quality leather, fresh tobacco and juicy bilberries begin the tasting experience. It is opulent, charming and very sensuous on the palate and has a vibrant energy. Aromatic notes of violets, currants, cinnamon, concentrated forest berries and cedar wood emerge. The tannins are very dense with silky elegance. The finale is characterised by amazing freshness, unmistakable elegance and self-assured complexity.
