More about this wine

If ever a wine screamed elegance, this is it. One of the most refined and sophisticated Pinot Noirs you will ever have the chance to savour.

The Selfi Wingert vineyard was first planted in 1971 and most of the vines are original so are over 40 years old. There are Swiss Pinot Noir vines and some Burgundy Pinot Noir vines and it is in blending the grapes from these two sources that this wine is created.

The colour is a beautiful clear ruby. I love to sit outside and let the sun shine through the wine. Beautiful.

On the nose there are a multitude of forest fruits, mainly black but with a few red fruits present. Hints of violet and cinnamon and a healthy and unexpected dose of sandalwood.

In the mouth this wine is fantastically smooth. Smoother than smooth. The black fruit continues to dominate but there is a sense of wholeness rather than a series of individual flavour discoveries. The balance is excellent with good acidity and enough tannins to let you know the wine is there.

The finish. Oh, the finish. Lasting for a very long time this is where the wholeness of the flavours unpacks into individual moments. First, there is fresh black cherry which gradually fade into prunes and then wonderful liquorice with a lovely tropical flourish of ripe banana.

For those who find the bigger, bolder Pinot Noirs too much, this is crafted just for you.
