This is a fantastic Pinot Noir from north east Switzerland.
Clear and clean as a perfectly cut and polished ruby, there is no doubt that this is Pinot Noir. The nose is very impressive. Masses of fruit, mainly sour cherry with a slight green tinge, delight your senses and urge you to drink. In the mouth, the flavours become even deeper. The balance of this wine is excellent. The acidity is perfect and the tannins are light and soft. On the finish, you find many more fruits with the cherry giving way to strawberry, raspberry, redcurrant with a little smokiness. The oaking has been so well done that all it adds is some depth and no perceptible vanilla so the grape has full range to show itself off.
If you ever want a good example of how terroir can create a wine, then this is it. The smokiness is a direct result of the granite and the finished product is an advertisement for Swiss Pinot Noir.
Compare this to most Burgundy and you will be pleasantly surprised.
