  • Alpine Wines Grape Varieties: Petite Arvine

There are few grapes whose DNA has not led to a fuller understanding of its parenthood and place in the whole family of grapes. Petite Arvine is one of those grapes. It is indigenous to Switzerland (with a small amount just across the border in Aosta, Italy) and grown there almost exclusively in Valais.

Petite Arvine creates a wine that is very popular with those who claim to be "red wine drinkers". It has a full aroma and a full body with a long finish.

The amazing aroma is full of fruit and honey. Apple blossom, strawberries, rhubarb, redcurrant, whitecurrant, green apple, Swiss four-fruit jam. In the mouth the joy continues with the aromas translating into flavours which are huge and delightful. The finish is long and glorious with a wonderful salinity. This is a great wine from a great winemaker.

This is the very wine that convinced Robert Parker that he should go to Switzerland and taste their wines.
