A Chardonnay in the Styrian style - crisp, transparent and with a touch of minerality. Not as aerial as a Beaujolais Blanc - it is sunnier in Styria - but still a cool, collected Alpine Chardonnay.
Ben says (September 2016): Having spent three years exploring Austrian wines, I am amazed that it has taken so long to taste these Styrian beauties. With the local name for Chardonnay, Morillon, being the same as the local name for Pinot Noir in Burgundy, this could have been confusing. The colour of the wine helped enormously! A beautifully light Chardonnay nose with Melon, citrus and plenty of salinity and minerality leads to a mouthful of the same. Once again, Styria has found a way of creating a unique wine with an international grape. This is a completely different Chardonnay and one which needs to be tasted. it is lovely. What a long and delicious finish!
