2018 was a fantastic vintage in the Wachau, and it shows in the "entry level" wines - they punch above their price point
Alzinger is a cult winemaker, his entry level wines are very approachable but already quite impressive.
Until 2016 this was known as Frauenweingarten, from 2017 this wine will be called Dürnsteiner Federspiel. This wine is from the 8.5 hectare Frauenweingarten vineyard between Oberloiben and Unterloiben, near the river and with primarily alluvial soil types yielding fruity rather than purely mineral wines.
Works with a wide range of foods and a popular choice with a tasting menu when you want a wine to work with everything, oh and one final that finish goes on and on!

The translation of Frauenweingarten is loosely "women's vineyard" and the name goes back to the Nunnery in Dürnstein which is the large vineyard site in the commune of Dürnstein-Loiben. Its vineyards are in the Loiben basin featuring warm soils composed of sands washed out of the Danube and partially interspersed with gravel.
