A quite unique and extraordinary wine that explores the potential depth and breadth of Welschriesling.

Greiner represents the return to a traditional vinification style that was once common in Burgenland and today is almost completely forgotten. The grapes from the Greiner vineyard were harvested very late in November with 15 - 20% affected by botrytis. Fermentation was conducted in large acacia wood casks followed by three years of cellar-ageing.
Greiner is voluptuous and grand, hedonistic rather than heavy. The nose displays aromas of fresh figs, ripe fragrant melon and exotic fruits, along with a distinctive spiciness. On the palate, mineral notes and a confident acidity contribute to give overall elegance and nobility.
Ben says (August 2016): The 2007 nose is a winner. It is a wine that I categorise as being one to smell for ever with no need to taste! Of course you would be mad to do that so I guess that describes me as well as the wine. Do not be put off by the botrytis as the sugar levels are very low indeed and only really impact on the nose. This is a wonderful dry wine with such elegance and character that it could make you weep.

Medium gold in appearance
A pronounced intensity nose that is led by the evolution of wine vinified in large acacia wood barrels for 3 years and with some botrytised grapes.
Smoky notes intertwine with notes of baked quinces and greengages and fig compote
The palate is no less intense with further notes of dried fig, baked quince and greengage and a rich toasty aroma from the acacia wood.
Medium levels of alcohol with perfect balance achieved through the medium plus acidity and culminating a medium plus finish
Labelled "halbtrocken" or off dry it really feels like there's relatively low levels of residual sugar.
