This green and gold beauty comes from an area surrounding a small medieval village on the north shore of Lake Neuchâtel. From such a gorgeous location you would be right in expecting a gorgeous wine.
Chasselas is grown throughout Switzerland and it is a very versatile grape, picking up the differences in terroir and displaying them in the wine. Almost every village has its own version and the differences are quite remarkable.
The Goutte d’Or appeals to the British palate as it has slightly more acidity than is usual for Chasselas, without losing the famed soft creaminess. A small bit of oak ageing adds a breadth to the wine too.
This is a beautifully smooth wine, full-bodied and refined.
