Joelle's Favourites, March 2019
Special Wine
At Alpine House for Robb's birthday on March 19th he picked Triebaumer Blaufrankisch Reserve. All the vintages are fantastic right now, even the youngest one has now come out of its shell.
Really Good Now
Another wine which has come out shining is the Johannisberg, it's bold and beautiful right now. The Saint-Saphorin is also very savoury at the moment and ready for asparagus or spicy rocket - though what I really want with it is dandelion salad, which of course is not available in the UK unless you go get your own... And the Deschamps Villages 2009 can do no wrong at the moment, what a gorgeous little Gamay that has nothing small about it. A 2009 at this price still, why is it not all gone yet?
Perfect for the weather
In this changing weather I have also found a special soft spot for the "not quite dry" whites like the unique Greiner and the Traminer Spatlese. A little touch of sweetness goes a long way when the weather just changed on you. I have also found myself in the mood for a mature Chardonnay, sometimes with simple poached eggs on crumpets
The Schiava Grigia is a most unique light and delicious red, on the spicy flinty pomegranate - one to try slightly chilled with your most-challenging-food-matches
