This Beerenauslese is a 100% Pinot Gris wine. It has a clean light gold colour, with honey and smoky botrytis on the nose. On the palate it's both opulent and elegant, with rich sweetness and hints of grapefruit and caramel. Viscous, with good length and a nice streak of acidity coming through on the finish.
Ben says (August 2016): You may be forgiven for thinking that there is a touch of Welschriesling in this wine but you would be incorrect. The honeyed botrytis notes are still strong and fruit aromas of apricot and orange dominate with some fresh garden mint. Beautifully sweet caramel and tropical fruits (still mainly grapefruit) fill the mouth. The finish remains long and powerful with the acidity countering the sweetness wonderfully.
