The 2009 is lovely and smooth. Give it half an hour in the fridge to chill slightly before serving. If it is too warm the alcohol can dominate on the nose. Otherwise this is ridiculously good value for money and outshines a few Cru!
A brilliant 2011 Beaujolais Villages by Philippe Deschamps - an absolutely classic Beaujolais Villages from old vines that puts many crus to shame. With spices and cherry on the nose there is also a metallic/blood aroma which is reminiscent of mature Bordeaux! In the mouth, there is a lot of herbal flavour. Still a very good wine.
The 2013 is a real smoothy. The nose is quite subdued but as you would expect from Gamay and on the palate this is a fruity and delicious wine.
Flo says of the 2009 (July 2018): This wine holds up to the test of time and by god 2009 was a great year for Beaujolais. A rich vegetal nose leads into a delicious easy drinking spiciness that comes in waves on the palette. A slight candy sweetness sings from the Gamay grape delicately balanced with rich tannin.
Flo says of the 2011 (July 2018): A classic Beaujolais Villages, with metallic notes counterbalancing rich herbaceousness. A delightfully fruity yet spicy number, this wine is a steal.
