- The Wine
A truly huge wine, this does not fail to please. Dark saturated ruby, nearly opaque. Deep roasted aromas on the nose with cassis, blackberry, ripe strawberry, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, ripe fruit with a fine woven structure, good extraction, hints of sweetness and spice. Hugely juicy and sappy, powerful and complex with soft tannins. Very long finish with nougat aromas and lots of fruit, yet very dry. Huge length and very good ageing potential.
Ben says (June 2016):
Sometimes, when you taste a lot of wine, you can forget just how good a wine is until you return to it years later. I made that mistake with this wine. I took it to the Kilburn Wine Circle for their tasting of Austrian and Swiss wines recently. On opening the bottles to check that all was well and to let them breathe a little before the tasting, I realised that this was I wine that I didn't want to pour for anyone apart from myself. I even found myself talking more than usual about the wine before pouring as if, subconsciously, I knew that I would eventually have to let it go and wanted to delay that moment for as long as possible!
The tasting notes above are absolutely accurate. It is huge and almost feels like a concentrate, it is so rich and fruity. What a magnificent wine!
