- The Wine
Triebaumer produce a Trie Weiss every year. However, the grapes they use are often changed making each year’s wine a new discovery. For the 2012 the grapes were Chardonnay, Yellow Muscat and Grüner Veltliner. When the wine is poured it is a pale lemon with hints of green. There was a slight pétillance but that did not detract from the wine in the slightest. The nose... Wow, what a nose. Floral and perfume notes dominate. There is a very pleasant savourinesss and hints of jasmine and lychee about it.
After much discussion, we decided that it was close to the aromas you get when you walk into a good delicatessen – the smell of anticipation of joy to come. Joy to come? That comes nowhere near the intense pleasure this wine gives on the palate. Every taste is like tasting a forbidden fruit for the first time. Green apple, gooseberry, pear, whitecurrant, pineapple, orange, perfume, grapefruit, lemon, lime.
This wine does for adults what fizzy-acid sweets do for children. It is excruciatingly gorgeous and makes you want to drink more and more. This is an astonishing wine especially considering it is from 2012. I will be ensuring that I try this every year for a while to see how it develops – that is, if I can resist drinking it all now!
Austria in a bottle - classic, crisp, perfect for sipping in the garden.
