- The Wine
This charming traditional Chénas, made from grapes hand-picked from vines grown on 5 hectares of granitic soils formed by the decomposition of eruptive rock. This is a powerful, complex, well structured wine with a splendid ruby colour, with granite tints and aromas of red fruits (blackberry, strawberry). In the mouth it has masses of fruit, and is smooth and supple. Serve this Chénas around 13-16°C with chicken or other white meats, roasts and cheeses.
This is yet another example of a vintage that has started to really show well.
Ben says: "I am often surprised at how a wine can change with age. The aromas of the 2007 have altered considerably and are now more elegant. Notes of leather and liquorice are replacing the previous berries to create a wine that stands out as refined. The mouthful of fresh fruit is now altered to a more cooked flavour with plenty of chocolate accompaniment. The finish is long and satisfying and the acidity gives enough mouthwatering pleasure to make this well-balanced wine a sipping experience, not a quaffer!"
