2009: This is the wine that came in 1st place in a review of 37 different 2009 Beaujolais Cru wines in the September 2010 issue of Decanter magazine. It earned a 5 star rating and a score of 18.5/20.
2011: Tremendous depth of colour with cherries and aniseed on the nose. On the palate, hugely ripe and intense dark fruit, chewy tannins and good minerality. Fantastic length.
Drink around 14°C with white or red meat dishes.
2009: Ben says (January 2017): I wish I had been able to taste this in 2010 when it was young, just so that I could make a comparison. As it is, I will have to be satisfied with the wonderfully smooth wine that it has become. A dark, exciting nose of black cherries and a touch of forest floor leads to a deep cherry taste bound up with soft tannins.
2010: Ben says (July 2018): A year and a half older but still magnificent. There are some 2011 Beaujolais Crus that just can't help being great. This is one of them!

Good dinner wine
Brouilly "Pisse-Vieille"

Paired with a beef dish, this wine was lovely but not as expected. Very deep ruby colour suggesting a serious wine, but with a spicy nose rather than deep fruit. Expecting a more fruit forward wine, my example differed from the notes Very smooth drinking with fine tannins but with more spiced notes to the fore when drunk with the fruit coming in just at the end. Very nice, well balanced and smooth all the way through- but a more spicy example than expected.

Fantastic vintage to drink now.
Brouilly "Pisse-Vieille" 2009, Lathuiliere-Gravallon

An intense nose of smokey red fruit with hints of anise. The palate is fruit forward with lingering forest floor. Smooth and complex with a long finish, I found this wine beautifully balanced.
