- The Wine
It may be cheesy to say so, but this is a wine that lives up to its name. It is a charming Chardonnay from Beaujolais and always good to offer to friends who say “I didn't know they made white wine there!”
Very bright, clear pale lemon/gold, almost primrose in colour. Despite its youth, the nose is dominated by tropical fruits, melon, banana and a hint of pineapple, all jostle to give a beautifully delicate but highly aromatic scent with subtle vanillas. The balance is astonishing. It is so soft on the tongue, but once swallowed the acidity arrives and your mouth waters immediately. At 12.5% this is quite a warm wine. The aroma translates to the palate almost exactly. The pineapple comes through a bit more strongly and the light oaking gives a touch of butteriness.
This is a beautifully crafted Chardonnay that can and will be enjoyed by both Chardonnay lovers and those who say they are not. We enjoyed it with a traditional roast chicken dinner. Perfect.
It also goes well with fish and seafood dishes, snails, frogs legs and is perfect for raclette and fondue. Also makes a good apéritif. Serve at 8-10°C.
Tasted 6 September 2017. There is very little to add to the above description. The ageing has meant that the flavours are deeper and more rounded and buttery. This can only get more and more interesting as it ages further. I know we should want to sell it all but I hope that I can return to this every year for a while!
