- The Wine
For their 100th anniversary, Badoux Vins brought out a stunning ripasso wine called Le Lézard Rouge. This was a Pinot Noir that had had time on the lees of Gamaret, creating a strong Pinot Noir based wine that had huge body and great flavours. Following the success of that wine, they decided to create a red wine to compliment their world-famous Chasselas, Aigle Les Murailles. This wine is the product that evolved from Le Lézard into Aigle Rouge.
The old vines Pinot Noir is hugely enriched by the contact with the Gamaret/Garanoir/Gamay blend which means that the nose can be confusing should you be anticipating typical Pinot Noir aromas. Sweet caramel and dark berries combine as if in a perfect blackcurrant tart with a small portion of vanilla cream. In the mouth the wine feels much more like Pinot Noir but that does not mean that it is in any way light in flavour. This remains a big wine with cherry, blackcurrant, caramel and vanilla combining to make a wonderful whole. This is great wine!
Flo says of the 2013 (Feb 2018): This wine has a gorgeous sweet berry flavour mingled with light spice and herbaceous notes. A suprising little number - perfect for grilled meats, gmae and cheese.
