- The Wine
The Riesling thrives on the warm, stony, residual sandstone soil (flysch) on a medium-steep east slope above the Danube, south east of Klosterneuburg town centre. The Riesling, one of Europe's best varieties and believed to originate from Germany, is of excellent quality in Klosterneuburg.
The wine's elegance and refinement come from the fresh aroma of stone fruit and its stimulating sharpness.
A fresh, fragrant Riesling with a clear composition and delicate body. Already well developed and very drinkable.
Ben says of the 2007(July 2016): If you are a Riesling petrol-head then this will not disappoint. Very clean petrol aromas with just a hint of green apple and some delicate tertiary notes coming through. You would expect the maturity to be more present on the palate but this is still showing like a much younger wine. Crisp and supple with plenty of fruit. Again, the tertiary notes are there but you will have to search for them if you really want to.
Opened on the hottest day of the year so far, this is a perfect aperitif and a lovely wine.
Ben says of the 2007 (May 2017): Still massive petrol aromas and still a lovely wine. A great example of how Austria can create a dry riesling which is as good as Germany but so different in style.
Ben says of the 2007 (May 2018): Little has changed. The nose is as glorious as ever although, in the mouth, the wine may be losing some flavour. Still lovely well chilled but needs to be finished this summer!
