- The Wine
Persan is very difficult to grow (some years it just won't!) but it makes wild and wonderful reds. This is an unusual variety which can come across as excellent but a little demanding.
We have chosen two. This one from Philippe Grisard, is a smoother expression of the wild wine that is Persan.
The wine is fruity and spicy with Alpine floral notes with smooth tannins and refreshing acidity.

Looks are deceiving.
A brooding, almost murky and ink like appearance, Clear ruby this is not. I was thinking this could be a heavy number given the rich herbal aroma with stewed fruit. However, a complete contrast when drinking as it turns out to be a light wine with quite a low alcohol content. There is an instant acidic hit rendering this a juicy fruity refreshing wine with fine tannins that follow and a long finish. Intriguing wine from an intriguing and very rare grape.
