- The Wine
In the nose, exotic aromas of pineapple and tropical flowers. In the mouth, yellow plums, a hint of pomegranate and whispers of aniseed. Fine minerality emerging in the finish. A perfect fish and seafood wine.
Ben says (January 2017): Once again, maturity allows wine to develop and change is such a way as to create a new wine! This is a deep golden wine which has lost a lot of what might be called typical Chardonnay characteristics. Instead of the pineapple and tropical flowers there are some lovely aromas of stone fruits, particularly peach. I can not find any pomegranate or aniseed at all even when squinting and thinking hard!
Because of, rather than despite, the changes, I heartily recommend drinking this wine now as it may have gone in the next couple of years.
Flo says of the 2009 (July 2018): I would disagree with Ben, I taste notes of pomegranate seeds in the tertiary notes of this wine. However, I would agree this wine is very stone fruit lead, particularly white peach. I am less inclined to drink traditional chardonnay but this is just delicious.
Ben says of the 2009 (August 2018): Sometimes I have to admit defeatr. In my defence, there were 18 months between tastings! I agree with Flo entirely, especially that this is delicious! One note of caution - the nose is smelling a little odd. There is a lot of sulphur, which blows off quite quickly, and a touch of something undefineable. It does not affect the taste over much.
